Working a side hustle for security

Side hustle security

Have you built a side hustle for security?

Almost everybody these days, has been affected by the worldwide pandemic crisis.

That, in turn, has caused economic turmoil.

In times like these, you can really use a side hustle, right?

What is a side hustle?

Well, it’s something that you do on the side of your full-time or part-time job.

You always want to have something to do on the side and that’s why I call it a side hustle.

These days of unusual lockdown due to the pandemic flu, we’re all like hanging out indoors.

I know we’re all getting antsy by now, but you know it’s also a good time to get some spring cleaning.

And as we do some spring cleaning, we can actually profit on it.

See, one of my little side hustles is Poshmark.

I’m into clothes like you would not believe.

I totally buy too many clothes, so I give some of them away for sure.

But some of them were so nice, I said “Why not put them on Poshmark and see what happens?”

So I did, and all the sudden, people were buying my clothes.

I went into my basement and looked around.

“I’m not using this anymore, or that anymore.”

Even things like household goods… I put that on Poshmark and found people were buying them too.

Poshmark

So I found that Poshmark is a nice side hustle to have, it’s a nice community.

You know, you won’t get rich on it, but it’s some nice pocket money.

Some people really take it seriously and turn it into a business.

They go to thrift stores and they put stuff from there on Poshmark to make some money.

You’ve probably seen the Poshmark commercials…

“I made enough money with Poshmark to pay for my wedding” and things like that.

You can make whatever you want out of it, but it’s a side hustle is something where you can bring in some extra cash.

Especially in times like this when there may not be a cash flow for you, and you need to get some rolling in.

Where to turn to find your side hustle

So I wrote a list because I was saying “how can I help people do some more?”

If you’re not computer savvy, think of this.

You’re doing your spring cleaning clean.

Then you think, maybe you want to put something on Facebook Marketplace that you house cleaning, and you could clean some houses if that’s how you’d like to make some extra pocket money.

Dog walking is another thing.

There’s some folks who maybe are not feeling well out there.

Or who can’t leave their homes.

Still they want to have their dogs walked.

Turn to Facebook Marketplace in your area or Craigslist or however you want to advertise it… you can do that.

Your side hustle could become your business

But it’s funny because a lot of these side hustles will become your main business.

Sometimes… if you’re making tons of cash from it.

But these are all things you can do to establish a cash flow.

There are also digital services that you can do.

You can go on Fiverr, you can go on UpWork.

And you know they say that for $5 you can get anything done, but I’ve used Fiverr so many times.

I end up spending up to $120 for some things.

That’s because it may start at $5 if you’re a writer and editor, say.

But then after a certain amount of words, it goes up another $10 or $20 or however you want to price point it.

Pretty much just establish your price because people are always looking for some help.

If you are really savvy on the computer and know how to do technical work… I know I’m always looking for that and I always go to Fiverr or one of my friends that can help me out.

Because when you are working online, you’re always doing everything yourself.

As always, it’s a good idea to hire someone else.

So if you want to do a full-time or part-time side hustle, or whatever, just go on Fiverr or Upwork and list your services and stuff there.

People are looking for people to help them out, and they are really into that kind of arrangement.

Freelance writing is another thing you can do if you’re a writer.

You can do some freelance writing so people.

Just go on sites where people are looking for freelance writers.

Graphic and web design is another great thing to do.

Everybody likes that.

I know I didn’t want to do my own website design, so I farmed it out and had someone do it for me.

People that are just getting into blogging, internet marketing, affiliate marketing or whatever… they’re looking to set up a blog or website.

Of course, they want it to be attractive, but either they don’t have the talent or they just don’t have the time to do it.

They want to get up and going, so they think hiring someone with tech skills that they don’t have.

That’s why digital services are great.

If you’re crafty and you’re stuck home, make some little crafts in and sell them on Etsy.

You never know where that’s going to take you.

I know that a lot of people do crocheting and knitting or whatever.

They do like little toys or clothing items.

Whatever you do that’s crafty.

Maybe you’re a quilter.

Whatever you do, people will appreciate that kind of work.

And they’ll pay money on Etsy.

I’ve bought handcrafted things on Etsy before.

It is a great place to get something different, something handmade to something that’s handmade in your own area.

Maybe you want to support your local people, so that’s another way to do it.

And there’s also affiliate marketing, if that’s something that you’re into, and direct sales and just a lot of things you can do on the internet.

I started a health and wellness niche side hustle this summer, and it turned into a main business for me.

It is doing very well, so message me if you’d like to learn more about that.

I’ll let you know how you can create a nice little business on the side with that, and as I’ve said… it can turn into a full-time business over time.

No matter what you’re doing in these rough times let’s try to keep it positive.

Try to just use that old noggin and say,”okay, what can I do to make extra cash while I’m locked down at home, and out of my normal workplace or routine.”

What’s your side hustle?

So what can you do?

I gave you a pretty long list to start from.

And you know, if you make if you make just a little bit of money, it just feels like so much joy.

It’s just so satisfying to know you can do it.

If I knew how to knit, or I knew how to do something else on Etsy and I put it on there and started getting some cash for it, I’d be like “Score, I made money!”

I know a lot of people have jumped on Poshmark.

My Poshmark business is going crazy because people want to buy clothes, but all the stores are closed.

So I have my used clothes posted… they’re in really good condition, things like purses and stuff like that… people buy them up like crazy.

So it’s something where you can see how a side hustle could be very helpful during these times, and could even turn into a real business.

You might be able to even work your business full time from home.

But if you’re not in a position to work at it full time, you can just continue doing it as a side hustle as your time and schedule allows.

A side hustle is not a get rich quick scheme

And even if you are not generating much cash flow at first, you can look at it as a learning experience.

Also, I just like to see when things are going crazy… and things are going crazy right now… that there is always a silver lining.

I remember when I was in real estate and in 2008 the markets hit bottom.

Now, I was not a realtor, but I was buying, selling, flipping and renting properties as an investor.

It was a lot of fun, and I was loving doing that.

And it was so amazing.

I was an affiliate marketer at first, but that didn’t take off so fast.

Meanwhile, I needed cash right away so I was flipping houses and it was unbelievable.

So, you know, that became a full-time gig for me and I made a lot of money in that.

But then it crashed.

And that’s okay because I started blogging, and I leaned on that until blogging became my main squeeze, okay.

Turning positive energy into an asset

So this is how it works.

Don’t be afraid.

Go on the journey and see the silver lining.

Turn this tough time into something profitable.

And even if you’re not doing it for money, maybe you’re doing it to raise money for a children hospital, or whatever.

Find your cause… something that you love, and do something you can do something about.

You’ll feel so great.

I got to work on my Poshmark store, photo-captured items, loaded the the prices and listings and all that busy work.

Sure, I did it to get rid of things, but also because I wanted to keep myself busy at a time when other things have to be put on hold.

And people are like so happy to see me put new things in my store, and I’m happy when “Yeah, somebody bought something for ten bucks,” and all that.

It’s not the amount, it’s the energy.

The positive, “I can do it” energy.

It’s about the joy of staying on my journey forward, no matter what.

And working a side hustle is really great for that.

Other than that, have a wonderful day and do something to make you happy!

    Hi Donna,

Blogging started as a side hustle for some of us, and later, as events start unfolding, it becomes a business. Likewise in this period of uncertainty, getting a side hustle that brings in extra cash is a good idea.

I have used Fiverr as a buyer and wasn’t too satisfied with the quality of services.

Thanks for sharing, Donna, nice reading your blog today.

Fun read, and so timely Donna! Poshmark sounds like a good fit for you. I already had a couple of “side hustles” but I’m working on a new one that I won’t go into here but I’m hoping to have it up and running in 2 weeks, that’s on top of finishing a new book, a new subscriber bonus to introduce next week, whew! I see a lot of people talking about how bored they are and just shake my head. Thanks for the enjoyable read, and stay healthy my friend!
